Netflix Has Already Planned the Launch of Ad-Supported Plans
- Aug 31, 2022
Or so it seems. The company has been reportedly working on ad-supported plans for months or even years, searching to create a more affordable subscription and attract more viewers. And though the company seems confident about where it’s heading, there is still no official information about when the new plans become available and how much they will cost.
The idea of an ad-supported plan has been on the surface for Netflix, as well as for other video streaming companies. It’s logical, given how expensive its plans have become recently and how it started losing subscribers these months. Especially given that loyalty makes no sense now: subscribers fall off after watching their favorite series and return to binge a new season, spending the rest of the time with Hulu, Disney Plus, or Amazon Prime.
How much will it cost? While Netflix avoids giving a direct answer before the official announcement, experts have some guesses. According to the material by Bloomberg, the ad-supported monthly plan will cost between $7 and $9 in North America. The duration of ads will be limited to 4 minutes an hour, and programs for kids will be ad-free.
As for personalization, for which Netflix is known, the experts assume Netflix won’t abuse it. The ads will be placed on a national level, instead of a personalized approach which will surely make ads relevant but too repetitive. It’s not clear yet whether ads will only appear while streaming video or in mobile games as well.
The plan may be launched in up to six countries by the end of 2022. So, those eager to pay less and still have access to content by Netflix may get it even before Christmas. Sounds great; but again, we need to wait for the official announcement to see whether these considerations are true.
Would you switch to an ad-supported plan if you already have one? And if you don’t, would this plan be more attractive to you? We need your opinion; share it with us in the comments!
