Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Development Didn’t Begin Until 2020

During a discussion with Kinda Funny Games, Dom Matthews, the head of Ninja Theory, shared that at the time of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2’s announcement in 2019, the game's development had barely begun, with only a trailer completed. The game made its debut alongside the announcement of the Xbox Series X/S during The Game Awards in the same year.

Matthews explained that the real development of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 didn't start until after the completion of another project by Ninja Theory, Bleeding Edge, released in 2020. Despite the seven-year gap since the original Hellblade game's release, the sequel's dedicated development time has been significantly shorter.

He expressed a strong commitment to the creative vision that motivated the team to launch the project alongside the new Xbox, highlighting the excitement that fuelled this decision. Matthews is driven by a daily goal to deliver an exceptional game and support his team in reaching a broad audience.

During the interview, Matthews discussed the game's technological enhancements, including better support for PC features and audio advancements over its predecessor.

Enthusiasts of the franchise can anticipate the launch of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, scheduled for May 21. This game will be accessible on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and will also be included in the PC and Xbox Game Pass right from its debut.
