Meta Shows New Content Overview Report and Raises More Questions
- Mar 15, 2022
Which posts were the most popular on Facebook in the last quarter of 2021? Meta published the content overview report for that period. But it’s strange to see the most popular third-party page simply not mentioned there. So, how does Facebook refute the recent accusations of its right bias with such a report?
In 2021, Facebook has started a new tradition of quarterly content overview reports. This report breaks down the content popular among Facebook users within a certain period. This includes widely viewed domains, links, or pages. And this report for Q3 2021, with its seemingly entertaining look, is where the paradox begins.
As other parts of the report seem to have nothing surprising, the Page breakdown looks at least sensational. It turns out that the most viewed page on Facebook… has been removed for violating Community Standards. We have tried to learn what’s this page, but Google cache does not show it. When you come to the 20 most viewed posts, you can see that three of them are deleted for the same reason. The removed posts didn’t get even a formal description.
One of the most serious allegations against Facebook (not confirmed but articulated) was built around one independent report about the most popular pages the list of which was obviously biased towards far-right ideology. This might imply that Facebook promoted these posts. And maybe it was in response to this that Facebook came up with its content overview report initiative in August 2021. As you see, most of the materials here look innocent. But the removed one makes an impression that Facebook tries to hide something.
What do you think Meta tries to hide? And have you seen its most popular pages and posts? You can leave a comment or just share a Facebook post you liked the last quarter. Just for fun, okay?
